Classes overview
NAGAHARU Art Club (All Ages)
Tuition covers materials and supplies, including basic sizes of canvas. You can also bring your own supplies to use at the studio.
Atelier Nagaharu’s primary class for artists on their journey, even if it is their first step.
Everyone is an artist. Even if you are picking up a brush for the first time, you can feel freedom in the canvas. If you are further on your journey, you may just need space, a critical eye, or a place filled with art to help give you new ideas and motivation.
Before you start, we will have a 1-on-1 discussion on what your goals are, and we will develop a plan to reach those goals. Whether you want to learn enough to complete one painting, develop a portfolio, or just learn how to draw Japanese-style illustrations, we will help you with any subject or material you are interested in:
Oil / Acrylic / Drawing
Still life / Spaces
Figure
Color Experimentation
Japanese Anime / Illustration
Garden / Botanical Painting
Beginner Painting
Art and Children (Ages 3-6)
Primary
Clay Art
Collaborative Art
Tuition covers all materials and supplies needed for the class
We prefer children to be dropped off so that they are not distracted by the parent’s presence
Primary Art: Standard class for young artists. It will be structured with different activities each day: coloring pages, drawing with different mediums (crayons, markers, acrylic paint, finger paint, etc.), and crafts (cutting, gluing, using stickers, etc.). All materials are non-toxic and washable. The children will develop their fine-motor skills and expand their imagination.
Clay Art: This class is good for developing student’s hand-strength. We will be using air-dried clay. We will mix colors and make a variety of shapes.
Collaborative Art: This class will focus on sharing and working together, two things that are very important for our children. Class structure will be 15 minutes of discussion about the topic-of-they day and different roles, followed by 30 minutes of art on that subject. For example, if our theme is the ocean, we will let the students share what they know, then they will work to create the ocean backdrop, and finally the students will get to decide what goes in/on/over the ocean.
One-Day Class: Short-term art work completion program
This is for people who want to experience art, but do not want to commit to one of the other schedules. Start and finish a small painting in 2-hours. Or maybe start a larger painting that you will complete over 2-3 sessions. This will allow you to set your schedule.
Please see the One-Day Class tab for sample pictures you can expect to paint by size and number of days.
This option will be available for private groups in the future.

In each class your young artist will develop their different art skills. We will cater to each students abilities, but generally will will cover:
Sketching
Experimentation with colors
Exploring their creativity
Work on a longer project (e.g., canvas work over many sessions)
Every student is different, and we will be flexible with their interests and development
Each class will end with the students sharing their work from the day and other students providing their thoughts on each other’s works.
After the K-3rd grade class finishes, there will be an additional 30 minutes where the students can do whatever they want that day if they are not too tired yet. The session will be for 2-hours, but we want to acknowldge that children with undeveloped hand muscles may be tired. We do not want them to lose interest by feeling they must stay longer than they want.
At the end of the 3rd-6th grade class, there will be time to share each
